Working within the Shell Energy Technology team, focused on Shell Energy UK (B2B) projects, this role will support our existing Senior Data Engineer, developing the solution delivery of Business and Technology led changes that affect systems and data.

YOUR PART IN THE TEAM

<br><br>

Your role will be varied but at its core will revolve around building and maintaining robust data pipelines to ingest, transform and deliver the right data at the right time. You should be comfortable engaging with internal and external data owners to understand source data, negotiating

<br><br>

This is a really exciting opportunity for someone to join the Data Engineering team and help fundamentally support the day to day running of our data estate. We’re currently migrating to an AWS cloud hosted environment which exposes many opportunities for integration pipeline optimization in a leading new technology. This role will include but is not limited to:

<br><br>

Translating business problems and data related requirements into solution options, providing the conduit between the IT development teams and the business

<br><br>

Ensure that data is delivered daily to the business, supporting incident resolution when required

<br><br>

Designing, developing and implementing new and optimal data system/solutions, to meet business requirements (Creation of ingestion pipelines, data integration support etc)

<br><br>

Maintaining and improving the performance of existing data systems/solution, ensuring they are safe and reliable for the business

<br><br>

Adhering to IT Delivery governance, controls, methodologies and compliance standards and expectations

<br><br>

Proactively identifying, recommending and optimising delivery process, practices and tooling, supporting and driving continuous improvement across IT Delivery

<br><br>

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO MAKE THE BEST OF THE ROLE

<br><br>

You will need to understand how data can be collected, analyzed and utilized; maintaining flexibility in the face of big data developments while understanding challenges and time sensitivity of the data in the domain. You will approach data challenges with a clear understanding of what is important; using the right approach and methods to maximise efficient use of time and resources.

<br><br>

The challenges of ensuring robust and resilient service will have given you experience in implementing proactive monitoring and resolving issues in a production environment, often working across multiple infrastructure service teams to achieve a solution.

<br><br>

You will have a strong background in SQL Server-based development. This will include a high level of competence in creating stored procedures and integration service packages to build robust data pipelines. You will also have experience in building reporting services BI reports for the business to consume data from. You will have strong Data Warehousing knowledge and understanding of the challenges of blending data to create single versions of truth and have the ability to optimise SQL code to improve query performance.

You will understand the importance of adhering to coding standards and documentation, be able to develop good working relationships with both technical and non-technical colleagues, and be able to articulate effectively and professionally at all times. You will have an understanding of devops processes and how they apply to data engineering.
