Director for Place & Wellbeing

The Post:
We have an opportunity for an exceptional leader to take forward the work of the Place and Wellbeing Directorate.
The role of the Place and Wellbeing Directorate is to support delivery of the PHS Strategy – A Scotland where everybody thrives 2022-25 – through leading, planning and delivering initiatives to increase healthy life expectancy and reduce health inequalities across the population of Scotland. This includes developing and building strong and effective partnerships and working in collaboration with national and local organisations to advocate for and implement what works.

The Candidate:
You will be responsible for leading, directing and managing the development and production of comprehensive service strategies and plans that ensure that PHS delivers its strategy and achieves its vision. You will have a firm understanding of what creates and harms health and have a real drive to improve health outcomes and reduce health inequalities for the people of Scotland.
You will be a dynamic leader with a real vision to make a difference. You will have considerable experience of operating at a senior level in a diverse, complex and expanding organisation, and expertise in matrix management. Evidence of continuing professional/personal development is required.
The post will report directly to the Chief Executive of Public Health Scotland.
The successful candidate may be required to undergo a Disclosure Scotland check. Any candidate who has lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.

Location:
The post is based in either Gyle Square, Edinburgh or Meridian Court, Glasgow but flexible working will allow the post holder to operate from a remote location on a regular basis. The post holder must be prepared to attend the fixed location at the request of the organisation when deemed essential.
It should be noted that PHS is currently in the process of relocating from Meridian Court to another Glasgow City Centre location later this year.

Working Pattern:
Monday to Friday 37.5 hours per week
However, applicants on any working pattern are welcome to apply for this post.
During times of public health emergency, or other urgent business need, you may be required on a temporary basis to work your normal contracted working hours over 7 days including weekends, in order to meet the needs of the service.
It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with PHS.
