Packaging Technologist


Core Responsibilities:

  • To develop and create specifications for Packaging and labelling requirements including design and quality producing a detailed Packaging and labelling Specification with clear recommendations on materials, components, finished product across quality, ethical, environmental and legal dimensions for online/mail order and retail operations defining specifications for nominated or self-source reference.
  • To support procurement team with sourcing and price negotiations of suitable packaging and labelling by providing detailed specifications and approval of packaging and labelling samples
  • To engage with selected packaging suppliers during production runs to ascertain and monitor quality standards.
  • Liaise with Buying/PI’s on the development of labelling and packaging and costings.
  • Input and validate packaging data onto Packsys system to record weights & dimensions for carriage streaming, warehouse planning and for legal compliance with the Environmental Agency.
  • To be knowledgeable about processes and procedures involved in delivery/picking /dispatching of products to the customer to ensure durability of packaging to protect products.
  • To work closely with the returns reprocessing team to ensure compliance with prime packaging specification on repacking, presentation and packaging materials.
  • Ensure that all packaging and labelling quality requirements for the company are understood and observed by suppliers in the development and production process
  • Maintenance of packaging and labelling manuals to ensure all company quality, protection, presentation and warehousing policies are relevant & up to date
  • Understand and maintain knowledge of market trends/ innovations in line with business strategy as well as benchmarking against competitors.
  • Understand and maintain knowledge of Packaging and Labelling compliance and legislation for UK/EU/International and Partnerships.

  • Packaging design
  • Packaging construction knowledge
  • Knowledge of packaging testing and standards
  • Communication skills – verbal and written – ability to communicate via variety of media with different cultures/various levels of Stakeholders
  • A good appreciation of design innovation to product packaging
  • IT skills – competent understanding of IT systems, excel, word, adobe illustrator
  • Highly organised
  • Self-motivated
  • Excellent Time Management – personal and role impact
