About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic Lead Audio Electronics Engineer with build and test design experience on wearable devices using wireless communications such as Bluetooth. Using your acoustic, audio and electronics skills and knowledge, you will evaluate state of the art audio transducers, Bluetooth Dual Mode SOC’s and Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) components, and prototype designs for new products, performing Design Verification testing and resolve issues to ensure the product meets specification. You will be joining a small, but highly skilled team helping to shape the future of Dyson wearable wireless Bluetooth audio products.

This role works on specification, design, and test of the electronic circuits for new and pioneering consumer products within Dyson’s Wearables category. As a member of the Research, Design and Development (RDD) Wearables Audio Electronics Team based in Malmesbury Design Centre, you will work in multi-disciplinary global project teams to develop and deliver the electronics for wearable audio products.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop mixed signal audio electronics, analogue/digital, and microcontroller-based electronic circuits for new Dyson Wearable Audio products.

  • Analog circuit simulation, PCBA prototyping and verification.

  • Lead the integration of electronics solutions at the system and product levels.

  • Perform and participate in design reviews, technical risk analyses, troubleshooting, and investigations to proactively solve complex problems.

  • Develop test methodology, conduct, and drive electronics design verification and product validation.

  • Produce detailed engineering materials including design schematics, PCB layouts where required, tolerance analyses, design notes, FMEA, failure analysis reports, and technical review documents.

  • Undertaking the building and testing of electronic prototypes, record results of audio and electrical / electronic verification on new designs to test that performance meets design brief.

  • Advising and assisting with the sourcing of components for prototype production and testing.

  • Liaise and collaborate with various Dyson engineering teams (PCB Engineering, Mechanical, Compliance, Reliability, Software, Manufacturing, Test, etc) across the UK and South East Asia to develop new Dyson Wearable Audio products through to production.

About you

  • B.S. degree qualified in a Audio or Electronics engineering.

  • Experience, preferably in low power Audio Electronics Hardware Design and Integration.

  • Previous experience in wearable/Bluetooth audio projects

  • Design of low noise Audio circuits to support narrow and wideband acoustics, circuit designs supporting Microphones and Speaker drivers, filters, ADC/DAC (Analogue/Digital Converters), low noise linear and switching power supplies.

  • High speed digital electronics experience, working with microcontrollers, DSPs etc.

  • Use of Audio Precision or Soundcheck test equipment, to measure audio component, sub-circuit and full product performance.

  • Working knowledge of schematic capture and PCB layout software such as Altium or Mentor Graphics.

  • Experience using simulation tools to support design calculations, tolerance analysis, and documentation.

  • Experience of electronics design for commercial products.

  • Experience in DFM, DFX and DFMEA.

  • Preferably experience of home appliance safety requirements and regulatory certification at PCBA and product levels, including EMC/ESD.

  • Some knowledge of RF requirements, to design for RF emissions and EMC susceptibility.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to independently deliver high quality results within challenging project timelines.

  • Highly motivated and self-driven with good communication skills, and team working experience.

  • The following capabilities will be a distinct advantage:

  • Detailed knowledge of Bluetooth Dual Mode SOC IC’s, such as those supplied by Qualcomm.

  • Acoustic design and testing, battery technology and power management.

  • Previous experience in design and testing of radio antenna, power optimization and certification.

  • Experience in vibration transducer components, such as accelerometers and gyros

  • Experience in RF certification communications and Bluetooth.
