Job Summary (Description of main purpose of job)

The Creative Arts Team encourages artists with a variety of learning disabilities to explore and develop their potential in a friendly and supportive environment. We believe that an individual’s interests and vision should be at the heart of their creative experience. Artists often find that joining a group gives them an opportunity to meet people, make new friends or take up a hobby.

A wide choice of arts and crafts are on offer, including drawing, painting, ceramics and sculpture, weaving, printing, felt making or other textiles, digital photography and paper arts. Some artists have developed their own distinctive style and enjoy promoting and selling their work through local exhibitions and sales.

Many artists, however, prefer to explore more therapeutic experiences, where the emphasis is on a less conventional means of expression. Here artists can enjoy music, dance, relaxation, aromatherapy, massage or authentic movement.

Our ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • Ability to work in a person-centred way both on a 1 to 1 and also within a group
  • Ability to work diversely with a broad range of creative arts mediums in order to respond to the wants and needs of individual artists

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and also independently on own
  • Knowledge of general arts and crafts material
  • Competent with basic DIY tools and camcorder
  • Previous experience of working with creative arts mediums
  • Experience of supporting groups or individuals, especially those with a learning disability
  • Planning and facilitating workshops with groups to achieve a shared outcome
  • Previous experience of working with non-conventional art mediums, such as music, dance, movement, sensory and therapeutic arts
  • Must be able to work flexibly across organisation
