Tearoom Assistants at Almond Valley

We’re looking for new recruits to join the catering team at West Lothian’s favourite visitor attraction. Morag’s Milk Bar lies at the heart of Almond Valley Heritage Centre and serves a range of tasty hot and cold snacks, teas, cakes and other refreshments in family-friendly surroundings. The tearoom team also operate the adjacent soft play area. It can be a busy, challenging, but satisfying working environment, and one in which your contribution can make a big difference to ensuring that visitors of all ages enjoy a great day out. We promote healthy eating, and use produce grown in our own gardens

As a member of the catering team you may be engaged in a wide range of duties that may include:

  • Assistance in the preparation of food
  • Serving customers, taking orders, cash handling, use of EPOS tills
  • Delivering food to tables, clearing tables, loading the dishwasher
  • Maintaining public and kitchen areas in a spotless condition.
  • Staffing kiosks and ice-cream outlets, staffing and monitoring soft play
  • Setting up and clearing up parties
  • Taking in deliveries

Experience in commercial catering and a current REHIS elementary food handling certificate would be a great advantage, although we may consider others with the enthusiasm and willingness to learn. Desirable qualities include good customer care skills, a head for numbers, a sense of fun, and the ability to cope in a busy and sometimes hectic working environment. Applicants must be over 16 years of age and completed their final statutory year at school.

A normal working day is from 9am to 5pm and we are open every day of the week. These are temporary positions until the end of August 2023, but with the prospect of this being extended at that time. The rate of pay is national living wage, or national minimum wage for younger workers.

We’re currently looking for weekend staff, working a minimum of 16 hours a week, but with opportunity to work additional days as required, up to a maximum of 40 hours/week
